"Change is the only constant." ~Heraclitus
It is inevitable that at some point in our lives we will be facing a significant change. It could be a career shift, completion of a project, being laid off, or retiring. With so much of our identity tied to the role we were in and the community we were a part of it can feel overwhelming when things end. We may even be a little lost, finding ourselves at a bridge we need to cross from who we were to who we are to become.

We can become someone different, recreating ourselves into the person we are meant to be now. Starting with what we bring to the table, our strengths, skills, experience and passions we can start to rediscover opportunities and possible paths to take. Even just the writing down and brainstorming can build agency - the feeling that you can figure this out.
With ideas generated, you can see the possible destinations, and get a feel for what is exciting, what draws you towards it, which ideas energize you, and where there might be hesitation. Then we get to explore more - what do I gain from each potential move, am I willing to do what it takes to make it a reality, is it worth it?
Adding detail to ideas might mean balancing them against reality. What obligations or responsibilities do I have? How much can my savings account float me while I figure things out and get reestablished? How much risk am I taking on and is it manageable?
We don't have to go it alone. although it might seem like no one would understand what you are going through you have friends, family and others who may be able to help or at least support you and cheer you on. In times of big change, I have called upon coaches and mentors to give me solid support, and walk me through idea generation, vetting, and planning courses of action.
At the end of the day, the plan and actions are ours to take. It can be exciting and stressful, creative yet uncertain. Change brings challenge, and with challenge comes growth. Just as with other changes in your life, you will get through it. You've got this!
